What’s the ROI On Your Phone?

(Title inspired by Socialnomics video/book by Erik Qualman)What’s the ROI (return on investment) for Social Media is one of the most common questions I’m asked while giving presentations.
I say one of two things:
First, “What’s the ROI on your Phone?”
We look at Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Linkedin and Blogging as promotional and advertising tools, like Television ads or Direct Mail. But their NOT, they’re conversational tools, like our cell phones, or email. In fact, many people use Facebook, Twitter etc. through their phone, so this statement becomes even more relevant.
Second “Don’t think ROI, Think What’s Your Expected Impact (WUIE).”
By communicating through these channels, who do you expect to connect with, chat with and empower? By sharing an insight through a discussion, who is going to see you as source of information to their problem?

Excellent point Will, as often people look at money out but not at money saved.
