The Wave is coming

First, you may have noticed that “Wave” in the subject line is capitalized, that is because the wave I am talking about it Google Wave, a new communication format that is to be released later on this year. Without having to re-event the wheel, and excellent article from American Express on their Open Form page covers the main questions in the article What Small Business Should Know About Google Wave.
A few months back I was able to review and post – click here - a video put out by the fine people at Google put out about the Wave. Since then there has been a lot of hype, and a lot of questions about how this will impact what we will use as our main communication tool – Currently it’s email by the way.
These are my thoughts since that video, and regarding the hype that the Wave will eventually topple email.
First, is this something people should know about? Yes – in fact this can be a great asset to many business, with the ability to collaborate quickly on projects – no more 2 -10 email scenarios
Two, is this going to kill email? Personal (and I may be going against some of my peers) but – No, this will not topple email. If fact, this will be an excellent tool that people will use specifically for projects, but I would guess that many of our day-to-day emails will remain emails.
However, that being said, I also don’t think Google will rest with this product – I can see them changing it, adapting it, and eventually integrate it with a much larger system, connecting you in all the places you connect with people – i.e. email, smart phones, and social media. That is where Google’s Wave will come to the for front, when people can go to a one stop shop for everything, and do it relatively easily. Which is the other key – people like email because it’s not hard to use. You type, hit send, and that’s about it – Wave needs to resemble this format to have a good chance of becoming the next best thing since sliced breed.
