Do you really know your audience?

Posted on | February 1, 2010 | No Comments

This is a big question that you should be asking yourself if you are in business. Who is watching you, and what are they looking for?

Generally, in business we think we know who where talking to – and I’ll use an example of the hottest topic right now in the gadget world

- iPad!

So, who is there target audience? Is it people who are tech-savvy, or want to deliver wicked presentations?

- Personally, I thought yes, this is for someone like myself who is a little gadgety, who wants the next thing. But in truth, it’s not.

The iPad is targeted towards someone who truly just wants to look around on the internet, or play games, or just watch a movie – But that’s it! They made it for people who might not like computers, or laptops. For people who travel, and want a device that allows them 2 hours to watch a movie, 3 hours reading a book, and 5 hours checking out Facebook – FYI the iPad is supposed to last for 10 hours.

Apple knew this, and that’s what separates a company like Apple, and a lot of other hugely successfully businesses, and ones that aren’t. They know who they are talking to – even if on-lookers don’t.

So, who is your target audience, and are you sure of that?
